Reason & Read

For the men at Emmaus Redlands - A bimonthly book club

Reasoning, reading, and, of course, beer drinking.

We will use On Reading Well to guide our first couple of selections and discussions.

Second novel: Holes by Louis Sachar & two short stories by Flannery O’Connor: Revelation and Everything That Rises Must Converge

Second meeting: Saturday, June 28th, 7pm

Location: 120 San Jacinto St., Redlands

Bring: Your book, a beer, a beer to share, and/or a favorite beverage and/or a snack. And if you didn’t get a chance to finish the book, that’s OK!

“Come let us reason together…”

FAQ

Q: Who’s invited?

A: Any guy from Emmaus. And feel free to bring a friend!

Q: What if I didn’t finish reading the book? Or read it at all?

A: If hanging out with Emmaus men is good for your soul, come anyway! And bring one extra beer as penance 😜. And maybe listen more and share less during the actual book conversation. But again, if you need guy time, please attend!

Q: Kids?

A: Not really.

Q: Do I need to get the extra book?

A: Nope. On Reading Well will be used to guide some of our conversation. But you can let me and others who are interested dive into this resource.

Q: What are we reading next?

A: The next read will be determined at each meeting. The group will vote on the next book at each session. Keep reading for details.

Q: Are we reading only fiction? How about Christian titles?

A: I’m game for anything the group picks. Part of the fun of a book club is that it can encourage you to read something you wouldn’t otherwise read. If there’s something you’re enthusiastic about reading, bring it to the meeting and give it a sales pitch! Then voting will ensue (we will use a variation of rank choice voting).
